NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Spirit acquired this false-color image after using the rock abrasion tool to brush the surfaces of rock targets. The image combines frames taken by Spirit's panoramic camera through different filters. It is enhanced to emphasize color differences among the rocks, soils and brushed areas.
Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter spacecraft will provide global maps of the planet and enable communications support for future missions. |
