Choose a Mykonos base around the evenings and beach days you want, then confirm how you will arrive and return. A room in town and a beach hotel can support very different trips. Put transfers and a flexible day into the plan before filling it with reservations.
Town or beach: start with the daily routine
Mykonos Town, also called Chora, gives a first visitor a natural focus for walking, dining, and the waterfront. A beach base makes sense when most of the visit will revolve around that beach. Ask about stairs, slopes, vehicle access, nearby music, and the room’s position. For beach facilities, clarify whether chairs, umbrellas, breakfast, and any shuttle are included in your rate. Compare the full stay: a cheaper room can require repeated paid transfers, while a well-suited base may make those unnecessary.
Name the arrival point precisely
Record whether you arrive at the airport, the New Port, or another operator-specified meeting point. Give the hotel your flight or ferry details and ask for a written pickup plan with price, contact number, waiting terms, and luggage capacity. For a ferry departure, follow the departure port on the ticket.
The Mykonos bus operator’s timetable lists airport, New Port, town, and beach services with route-specific validity dates. It uses both Fabrika and Old Port route headings, and currently includes a departure-location notice for Ano Mera, Kalafatis, and Elia. Read that notice as well as the times and confirm the actual stop with the operator. Save the return journey before leaving town.
A schedule screenshot is useful only when its dates match your trip. Check again shortly before arrival, especially outside the busiest months. If the last service leaves before dinner ends, decide in advance whether to dine near the hotel or book another return arrangement. Include walking with bags in the time estimate.
Give Delos enough room in the itinerary
For an excursion to Delos, separate the boat journey, archaeological-site admission, and any guide or audio service when reading the product. Confirm exactly which are included, the meeting point, the return sailing, and what you should carry. Use the provider’s current booking details for the chosen date.
Delos Tours’ terms explicitly allow weather-related cancellations and distinguish cancellation of its own departure from disruption to a separate connecting service. That distinction matters if a ferry or cruise ship is bringing you to Mykonos first. Read the conditions for the exact product you buy, including no-show rules.
Place a desired Delos trip early enough in the stay that another date may be possible, subject to availability. Keep sun protection, water, walking comfort, and your access needs in mind when assessing the visit. Confirm current site conditions and facilities with the operator before committing.
A flexible three-night outline
Illustrative sequence: arrival afternoon, two full days, and departure the next morning. It assumes your arrival permits an easy first evening and is not a guaranteed ferry or attraction schedule.
- Arrival: transfer to the hotel, settle in, and eat nearby. Save the ambitious cross-island outing for a full day.
- First full day: take the planned Delos excursion if operating, then leave the evening simple. If cancelled, use the day for town or a suitable land-based activity and ask about another departure.
- Second full day: choose one beach or village area and confirm the journey home. Keep this day flexible if Delos can move here.
- Departure: use a confirmed transfer with the buffer required by your airline or ferry operator. Avoid placing a separate boat outing immediately before departure.
Budget for a change of plan
Keep funds and an uncommitted time window for a delayed connection or an extra meal and transfer. Before purchasing a chain of separate tickets, decide where an overnight buffer would be most useful. Wind and operating decisions can change the day’s transport; follow the provider’s notices and instructions.
Keep a small offline record: accommodation address, arrival details, transfer contact, final bus or booked return, and cancellation terms. That record is especially helpful when several people are sharing responsibility for the trip.
