In 2010, Coopers Beach was named the best beach in the top beaches ranking by Dr. Stephen P. Leatherman, Director of Florida International University's Laboratory for Coastal Research. Dr. Beach uses fifty criteria are used to evaluate beaches, including water and sand quality as well as safety and environmental management. Coopers Beach is the primary beach in the Village of Southampton in the world-famous Hamptons region of Long Island. The area is known for its quaint villages, miles of farmland, wineries, art, history, fine dining and lodging. The top beach is located at 268 Meadow Lane near the intersection with Coopers Neck Lane. Coopers Beach is a large white sand beach, well-maintained, with sand dunes and beach grass. Fifth on the list is Main Beach, in the Village of East Hampton. Both are a small part of the over hundred miles of oceanfront on Long Island's South Shore.
