Rock the Vote and DKNY Jeans formed a partnership to create co-branded t-shirts, available beginning today in retail stores nationwide. Product sales will be driven by celebrity magazine ads designed to reach young people, a critical swing group that Rock the Vote hopes will not only step into the voting booth this November, but will motivate their peers with a timely fashion statement.
The t-shirt, available in several black and white versions, is the center of a public service announcement campaign featuring musicians and actors including Kate Bosworth, Josh Lucas, Maroon 5, Eva Mendes, and Q Tip. Offering such handwritten messages as You decide, Vote. It's important, and You have the power, the single-page and double-truck ads will be published in such targeted publications as Details, Elle, Entertainment Weekly, Fader, In Style, Spin, and Teen People.
"The dynamic among fashion, music and political empowerment has steadily evolved, from flapper suffragettes in the 1920s to countless groups today," stated Rock the Vote president Jehmu Greene. "We value the partnership of DKNY Jeans and these and other artists trying to make a difference. Their commitment ensures that a new generation of Americans will fully enjoy the fruits of democracy."
Donna Karan, chief designer of Donna Karan International says, "Exercising your right to vote is an expression of your individuality and is the true spirit of America. I'm thrilled that DKNY Jeans can create something to support Rock The Vote."
Rock the Vote is a non-partisan, non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young people to change their world.
