How to Prepare for the Pharmacy College Admission Test

Probably the only two books you will need are Barron's How to Prepare for the PCAT and Opportunities in Pharmacy Careers.

First and foremost, about the career itself, in Opportunities in Pharmacy Careers you'll find discussion of recent changes in the pharmacy profession and dispensing regulations, updated salary and employment statistics for careers in all pharmaceutical disciplines, valuable advice on obtaining scholarships, including using the Internet to research sources, and a completely updated list of pharmacy programs, schools and colleges.

As the best-selling PCAT preparation book, Barron's PCAT : How to Prepare for the Pharmacy College Admission Test prepares students for the standardized entrance exam, gives them a summary of pharmacy school admission requirements, describes the pharmacy training process, and provides an overview of the PCAT. Review outlines for college-level biology, organic and inorganic chemistry, and quantitative ability are provided, plus a full-length PCAT practice test with answers. Reader: "I bought this book, along with every other PCAT book I could find. I studied and studied all of them up until test day. When I took the exam (10/99), the only book whose questions were similar to the actual test was this one. The other books are WAY too in-depth. Overkill might be a good thing on other exam preps, but here, over-studying could lead to burn-out, and failure to miss the big picture. Granted, I'm a graduate student in Pharmacology, but this book is the best prep I read. Pick up this book and the HighYield series in Biology and General Chemistry. Forget the rest."

Arco PCAT includes over 400 practice questions in all PCAT Subjects, detailed answer explanations, a review of the Pharmacy Licensure Requirements, and a directory of pharmacy colleges nationwide.

PCAT: Complete Preparation for the Pharmacy College Admission Test contains a full-length model of the PCAT and includes information, insights, and exercises in a quick-reference format, but a reader complains that "the practice questions are much more difficult than the standard PCAT questions. If you have all the time in the world this book would be fine, but if you are like me and are going to have to work time to study into a busy schedule save the money and invest in Barrons."
