The former American CIA, FBI, DOD, Canadian RCMP and Russian KGB intelligence and counterintelligence officers of the Centre for Counterintelligence and Security Studies (CI Centre) in Alexandria, Virginia offer a variety of exciting espionage-themed excursions around the globe including Washington, London, Moscow and Hawaii. Called SpyTrek, those with an interest in the topic of spies can take a unique vacation with an espionage theme hosted by real former spies and spycatchers:
SpyDrive is a bus drive through Washington, DC--the "Spy Capital of the World"--and shows visitors where spies lived, worked and operated in the city. The two hosts, one of whom was in the CIA, FBI or DOD and the other who was in the KGB, provide two perspectives of the city. See SpyTrek.com for reservations.
The Robert Hanssen SpyDrive visits the places where Hanssen and his Russian intelligence officer handlers operated in the Northern Virginia area. KGB tradecraft is discussed as well as an in-depth look at the Hanssen case--the man, his motives and his method of operating.
SpyCruise is an ocean cruise with the intelligence officers of the CI Centre who present daily lectures on real spy cases and espionage events. Call 1-800-741-1770 for reservations and information or see SpyTrek.com Planned cruises in 2003 include:
"Denial, Deception and Illusion," the theme while sailing aboard the Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas ship from San Diego to Hawaii. Passengers who are part of the SpyCruise group on board will learn how intelligence services have used "denial and deception" techniques to manipulate and deceive other countries. Lectures on how the KGB used these techniques to protect their sources Aldrich Ames and Robert Hanssen, the deception story behind the Vietnam War, Sun Tzu and the PRC practice of espionage, and the real ‘Mission Impossible' disguise artists who worked at the CIA are just a few of the topics that will be covered. The cruise is from March 27 to April 9, 2003 and spends the last half touring different Hawaiian islands via the ship. Prices start at $1749.
"British Traitors and Espionage" will be the theme of the cruise sailing aboard Cunard's Queen Elizabeth Two ship on one of her last transatlantic voyages from New York to London. SpyCruise group passengers will learn about British espionage cases such as the Cambridge Five spy ring, the spy George Blake, spies in the Mitrokhin KGB archives, the British deception operation against America in 1940, and more--all from British intelligence authors Christopher Andrew and Nigel West as well as other SpyCruise professors. The cruise is from September 1-12, 2003 and includes an optional London tour package. Prices start at $1649.
SpyMoscow is a tour of "The Cold War Through the Eyes of the KGB." CI Centre guide Dan Mulvenna, a former counterintelligence officer with the Canadian RCMP and security expert, will show visitors spy sites in Moscow, Russia including the KGB museum, Red Army/GRU museum, Oleg Penkovsky case sites and more. There will also be briefings, dinners and receptions with retired KGB officers. SpyMoscow takes place from May 26-28, 2003. For more information, see SpyTrek.com.
