Preparation checks

If the phone is missing
- Use the official finding service from a trusted device. Check the timestamp and request Lost Mode or Mark as lost; confirm whether the action completed.
- Contact the carrier and workplace as applicable. Report theft to local police; do not confront someone at a map location.
- Review important accounts and unauthorized changes from a trusted device.
- Read the platform's erase consequences and backup status before erasing. Apple advises keeping a stolen device in Find My to retain Activation Lock.
