Polaroid's PP46d thermal photo printer is a multi-functional, compact digital solution that provides today's professionals with a high-quality photographic printing system. In less than two minutes, the PP46d generates 300 dpi, borderless output with similar high-quality definition and color gradations found in traditional 35mm photographic prints.
"Polaroid has been a world leader and trusted name in the passport photography market for more than 30 years," said Jeff Hopper, vice president and chief marketing officer, Polaroid. "Through our outstanding customer service and commitment to product development, we continue to offer imaging solutions that cater to the distinct needs of these photographers. For professionals within the passport and identification photography business, the new PP46d offers a flexible and reliable digital imaging solution to establish or enhance their photo documentation business."
Weighing four-and-one-half pounds and with a small footprint, the Polaroid PP46d photo printer features a compact, space-saving upright design, allowing users to incorporate a multi-functional printing solution at retail without wasting valuable workspace. With its large range of digital media slots, the PP46d offers users a virtual digital mini-lab incorporated into a streamlined stand-alone device.
The system's all-digital, easy-to-read, color LCD menu and instructional display panel allow ID photographers and their clients to review their photographs first, select the desired images and then print them immediately to the appropriate ID or passport format. This capability eliminates the need for re-takes and results in a cost savings for retailers, while providing clients with crisp and durable images of their choice, the first time. Additionally, the PP46d's built-in technical features enable users to alter the sharpness and brightness, and print their images in a variety of layouts, including two, four, six, or eight-up formats. To operate the printer, users simply insert their memory cards, choose the desired images, and press print. No computer is required.
The printer has the ability to read media directly from various types of memory storage, including CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick, SD, MultiMedia Card (xD, Memory Stick Duo and miniSD with an adapter), as well as a USB connection. The PP46d kit is now available in the United States with a one-year limited warranty for a suggested retail price of $249. The kit contents include the printer, AC power cord, paper guide, driver CD, printer user manual, and Adobe Photoshop Album 2. The printer utilizes Polaroid PM46d Photo Print Pack, which is available in 36-photo sheets with one matched ink ribbon cassette for a suggested retail price of $24.95.
