Kemps Nickels for Schools program has generated more than $800,000 for approximately 3,200 K-12 schools in the Midwest.

"Kemps is thrilled to contribute to children's education at such a significant level," states Rachel Kyllo, Vice President of Marketing for Kemps. "Our program may have a new name, 'Nickels for Schools,' but Kemps' commitment remains the same: We will continue to offer schools five cents for every specially-marked milk cap and proof of purchase redeemed during the 2004-05 school year." In addition to milk, consumers can now look for redeemable Nickels for Schools proofs of purchase on Kemps cottage cheese and sour cream packages.

Launched in April 2002, Kemps' Nickels for Schools was the first school fund raising program in the region to be linked to the purchase of milk, a staple for school children and their families. To date, students have redeemed more than 16 million milk caps and proof of purchase symbols. More than 3,200 public and private K-12 schools in nine states across the Midwest currently participate in the Kemps program.

By redeeming specially-marked Kemps milk caps and proofs of purchase, schools can raise up to $10,000 in cash to help finance unmet needs. Nickels for Schools allows educators to use proceeds to pay for anything that the school decides. Among the items that schools have reported purchasing with money raised: playground equipment, educational videos and other library resources, and supplies for school plays.

Participation in the program is easy: Consumers save specially-marked caps from Kemps plastic gallon and half-gallon milk containers, and the proofs of purchase symbols from Kemps cottage cheese, sour cream and paper milk containers, and turn them in to their local school. Schools redeem the caps and proofs of purchase for cash.

Kemps is Minnesota's leading dairy company and originator of the milk fund raising program for education.
