AT&T Wireless today announced that it has signed an agreement with Verizon Wireless addressing the operational details of how the two carriers will port customers' wireless phone numbers between them once local number portability takes effect on November 24, 2003.

"This marks our fourth number porting agreement with a major wireless carrier," said Jonathan Tinter, vice president - marketing strategy, AT&T Wireless. "Even though the Federal Communications Commission recently said that these agreements are not required in order to comply with the Local Number Portability mandate, we're taking this additional step because we want the LNP process to work as seamlessly as possible."

"This is a great resource for consumers who want to better understand local number portability," Tinter said. "Our goal is to simplify LNP for the public, whether you are porting a number or just want to learn about the topic."

Tinter also noted that the company has trained its employees about LNP, engaged in extensive intercarrier testing of its LNP systems, and is prepared to meet the November 24th deadline.
