Sun Microsystems today announced the availability of Sun Chili!Soft ASP software v3.6.2, a cross-platform implementation of Active Server Pages (ASP) that allows Java and ASP developers to work collectively on developing portable ASP applications for a variety of platforms. ASP technology enables the creation of dynamic and interactive web pages.
This software allows Web developers to use familiar interfaces, to easily integrate Java-based business logic into ASP applications through enhancements made to Sun Chili!Beans, a technology that allows any Java class to be accessed via Microsoft scripting languages. Enhancements include support for the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) up to version 1.4 and use of Java technology's built-in security manager.
"Sun Chili!Soft provides the bridge for connecting the Java platform to ASP code for cross-platform deployment of ASP applications," said John Shell, senior product manager at Sun Microsystems. "For organizations with both Java and ASP developers, creating portable ASP applications is one of the most productive and efficient uses of both resources."
Sun Chili!Soft ASP software allows ASP developers to create cross-platform Web applications using their existing ASP skill sets. Furthermore, by using Sun Chili!Beans software, developers can benefit from the security of the market-leading Java platform, while still applying the Component Object Model (COM) interface that they are accustomed to. Sun Chili!Soft ASP is available for the Solaris Operating Environment, Linux, Windows, AIX and HP-UX.
