Delphi and XM Satellite Radio are providing the industry's first portable satellite radio boombox - - the SKYFi Audio System -- to audience members of two of daytime television's most popular programs: "Dr. Phil" and "MTV TRL: Total Request Live."
Today's episode of "Dr. Phil," the highly-rated TV talk show hosted by renowned psychologist and best-selling author Dr. Phillip C. McGraw, featured the Delphi XM boombox as one of Dr. Phil's personal recommendations for holiday gifts. When the audience learned that each of them would receive their own Delphi Skyfi Portable XM radio boombox, the crowd erupted into a standing ovation.
On Monday, December 22, MTV's TRL audience will receive the SKYFi system for Day Eleven of TRL's Twelve Days of Christmas promotion.
"The SKYFi is already the most successful satellite radio in history and its popularity continues to grow," said Joseph Damato, Director, Consumer Electronics, Delphi Product & Service Solutions. "These gift programs cap off a year that included SKYFi presentations at the Grammys, Oscars, American Idol finals and MTV Video Music Awards, to name just a few."
"We're delighted that the 'Dr. Phil' show and 'TRL' would recommend XM Radio as a holiday present," said Hugh Panero, President and CEO of XM Satellite Radio. "When people experience XM Radio, it has a certain magic to it. It's radio like they've never heard before, with channels devoted to everything from holiday music to hip hop, classic country to classical symphonies, audio books to NASCAR. With recommendations from these phenomenally successful programs, we expect that a very hot holiday gift will be even hotter."
Since its launch in the fall of 2002, Delphi has sold more than 500,000 SKYFi receiver units to retailers, making it the best selling satellite radio in its class. Attractive radios like the Delphi SKYFi system and compelling programming from exclusive partners like MTV Radio are responsible for putting industry leader XM on pace to exceed the 1.2 million subscriber mark in 2003.
Audience members at Dr. Phil and TRL are receiving the complete Delphi SKYFi Audio System, which provides the flexibility to take XM virtually anywhere.
"Dr. Phil" is one of the most-watched shows on daytime television. Since its 2002 debut, "Dr. Phil" has garnered the highest ratings of any new syndicated show since the launch of the "Oprah Winfrey Show" sixteen years ago. The program airs on more than 170 TV stations, covering 95 percent of the country.
"MTV TRL" is one of the most popular and influential programs on the MTV network, featuring live performances and interviews with contemporary artists and other celebrities live from the MTV studios in Times Square. Mediaweek magazine calls "TRL" a "staple of the tween and young teen's after-school schedule."
XM is transforming radio, an industry that has seen little technological change since FM, almost 40 years ago. XM's programming features 100 coast-to-coast digital channels: 71 music channels, more than 30 of them commercial-free, from hip hop to opera, classical to country, bluegrass to blues; and 29 channels of sports, talk, children's and entertainment. For the first time on radio XM brings to the car the same diverse selection of news sources available in the home on cable and DIRECTV.
