Marshall University President Dan Angel today joined officials in breaking ground for an expansion of the Forensic Science Center.

"Marshall's forensic science program is a recognized leader and represents a true cornerstone in our continuing march toward National Prominence," Angel said. "Today's groundbreaking is just the latest in a series of capital improvement projects that represent a new investment of more than $100 million in Marshall University and the Huntington community."

The West Wing annex will house new classroom space with seating capacity for 50 people and a regional computer forensics laboratory that will provide training, distance learning courses, research, professional continuing education and computer forensics services to law enforcement.

"This project will allow our center to broaden its focus," said Dr. Terry W. Fenger, Ph.D., director of the Marshall University Forensic Science Program and CODIS Laboratory. "Cyber investigation and network security are also critical components in the expansion of our facility and the program here at Marshall."

Completion of the West Wing annex project will also enhance the further development of a graduate-level program in computer forensics, Dr. Fenger added.
