Rita of Cascia, wife, mother, widow and Augustinian nun, is the patron saint of impossible cases. Toward the end of her life she bore the mark of the thorn from Jesus' passion on her forehead and suffered much pain. She died in 1447 and her feast is celebrated on 22 May.
