NETWORK-MODEL REVIEW WORKSHEET Yenra | September 19, 2026 Article: https://yenra.com/wiki/SVN_software_virtual_network_battlefield_communication_simulation/ Purpose: Describe the assumptions, measurements, and validation behind a network simulation or emulation result. Edit this text file for a study. This worksheet is a learning/review aid, not an operational test procedure. 1. STUDY BOUNDARY Question being answered: Application behavior of interest: Tool, release, libraries, and configuration: Simulated elements / real elements / connecting interfaces: Topology, traffic, and environmental assumptions: Run duration and observation-window definition: Random seeds and number of repetitions, where relevant: Clock reference and evidence that timing was maintained: 2. METRIC DEFINITION (repeat for every reported metric) Unit counted (packet, unique message, file, transaction, etc.): Start/end points of measurement: Deadline and its justification: Numerator / denominator / units: Measurement method: Observed results and variation: 3. SYNTHETIC EXERCISE — INVENTED VALUES Sent: 1,000 unique application messages. Exercise deadline: 100 milliseconds one-way, using a suitable common clock. Arrived within deadline: 960. Arrived late, within observation window: 30. Missing at observation-window close: 10. Assume each message is counted exactly once, with no duplicate arrivals. Delivered within window = (960 + 30) / 1,000 = 99%. Timely delivery = 960 / 1,000 = 96%. Late delivery = 30 / 1,000 = 3% of messages sent. Missing share = 10 / 1,000 = 1%. Check: 960 + 30 + 10 = 1,000. The 100 ms deadline is an exercise assumption, not a military requirement. These values are not results from EXata, a radio, or a deployed network. A delivery percentage alone does not disclose timely delivery. 4. VALIDATION AND INTERPRETATION Reference measurement or independently known case: Properties compared, conditions, and allowed disagreement: Results of comparison: Assumptions varied and effect on results: Host/timing constraints or implementation limits: What the evidence supports: What remains unvalidated: Evidence needed before using the result for a different scenario: Source context: ns-3 emulation overview: ways to combine real and simulated elements. https://www.nsnam.org/docs/models/html/emulation-overview.html ns-3 validation discussion: compare the model to its intended target. https://www.nsnam.org/wiki/HOWTO_make_ns-3_interact_with_the_real_world Keysight technical overview: manufacturer's description of EXata. https://www.keysight.com/ie/en/assets/3122-1406/technical-overviews/EXata-Network-Modeling.pdf
