SCIENCE FIELD STUDY — PLANNING AND RECORD SHEET Version: 2026-09-11 Guide: https://yenra.com/mobile-data-acquisition/ Purpose: preserve enough context to compare field measurements fairly. Use the equipment's instructions and your school's fieldwork procedures. This sheet supplies a recording framework, not instrument acceptance limits. Question / intended comparison: Date / team / responsible teacher or investigator: Site codes and location-record method: Access permission / appropriate handling of location or personal information: Quantity measured / units / fixed depth or height: Independent sampling unit (for example, a distinct plot): Number of independent plots or pairs / repeat visits: How sites or pairs were selected: Variables held constant / remaining differences between sites: Collection order / plan to avoid confusing site effects with time changes: EQUIPMENT AND PILOT Sensor model / ID / range / accuracy specification and its conditions: Device and app / software version: Power / storage / offline collection check: Clock, timezone and timestamp check: Response-time or stabilization rule and supporting instructions: Sensor comparison or reference check / readings / acceptance rule: Calibration record, if applicable (a comparison check is not calibration): Pilot export opened successfully / units and timestamps retained: File naming / raw-data location / backup location: FIELD RECORD — copy a row for each observation Plot or pair ID | condition | date/time/timezone | sensor ID | depth/height and units | reading and units | stabilization | notes Record weather, shade, ground cover, setup changes and unusual events. Preserve raw readings; record any exclusion and its reason separately. Readings repeated at one plot do not create additional independent plots. FICTIONAL WORKED EXAMPLE (soil temperature at a fixed depth) Paired sun-minus-shade differences: 3, 4 and 2 degrees Celsius. Mean of the three paired differences = (3 + 4 + 2) / 3 = 3 degrees Celsius. These invented data represent three pairs on one visit. Repeated readings can assess stability at a plot; broader claims require broader sampling. ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION Pair definitions / calculation with units: Number of independent pairs and visits: Variation across pairs / sensor uncertainty: Missing observations / exclusions / reasons: Other explanations or uncontrolled differences: Conclusion limited to the sampled conditions: Next visit or comparison needed:
