DreamWorks Animation's new computer-animated comedy Shark Tale made its U.S. premiere in New York's Central Park on September 27, 2004. The stars of the film, including Will Smith, Robert De Niro, Renee Zellweger, Angelina Jolie, Martin Scorsese, Doug E. Doug, Ziggy Marley, Michael Imperioli and Vincent Pastore, were among those sitting under the stars at the Park's famed Delacorte Theater.

The event was dubbed Sharkspeare in the Park because it was held at the theater that is the traditional site of the Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park plays. The Shark Tale premiere also marks the first time ever that a movie has screened at the landmark stage venue.

Among the more than 1,800 guests in attendance at the Delacorte were many of the musical artists from the film's soundtrack, including Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, Sean Paul, Ludacris, Lil' Fate, Bobby V., and JoJo. Also on hand were the film's directors, Vicky Jenson, Bibo Bergeron and Rob Letterman; producer Bill Damaschke; and executive producer Jeffrey Katzenberg. Joining them were celebrity guests and industry VIPs, including Tom Cruise, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jerry Seinfeld, Anthony Edwards, Lauren Bacall, John McEnroe and Patti Smyth, Ann Curry, Mercedes Ruehl, Christopher Meloni, Rebecca Budig and Bob Guiney, Fred Armisen and Hallie Kate Eisenberg and others.

Opening nationwide on October 1, 2004, Shark Tale stars the voices of Will Smith, Robert De Niro, Renee Zellweger, Angelina Jolie, Jack Black, Martin Scorsese, Doug E. Doug, Ziggy Marley, Michael Imperioli, Vincent Pastore, Peter Falk and Katie Couric. The film was directed by Vicky Jenson, Bibo Bergeron and Rob Letterman from a screenplay by Michael J. Wilson and Rob Letterman. The producers are Bill Damaschke, Janet Healy and Allison Lyon Segan, with Jeffrey Katzenberg serving as executive producer.

The Shark Tale Soundtrack, featuring such artists as Christina Aguilera, Missy Elliott, Mary J. Blige, Will Smith, Justin Timberlake, Ziggy Marley, Sean Paul, JoJo, D12, Ludacris, India.Arie, and others, was released on September 21 on DreamWorks/Geffen Records.
