Comtech Telecommunications announced today that its Orlando, Florida-based subsidiary, Comtech Systems, has received a $1.3 million contract to provide a digital over-the-horizon microwave communications system for use by a Southeast Asian subsidiary of a major international oil company.

The award is for the design and delivery of an over-the-horizon troposcatter system with sites located on an offshore oil platform and a land-based communications center. The system will have a data rate of up to eight megabits per second (8Mbs), and will be used to carry both digital voice and data traffic.

This is the third system of this type that has been delivered to this customer in the past three years. Comtech Systems will be supplying its 8Mbs adaptive S-575 digital modem, troposcatter radio and high power amplifiers, as well as antennas and its performance monitoring and power control system.
