3.6 Mbps mobile broadband transmits data at speeds up to seven times faster than that of WCDMA for multimedia downloads

Samsung demonstrated High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) technology reaching speeds up to 3.6 Mbps.

Although 1.8 Mbps has been demonstrated in the past, Samsung's demonstration of HSDPA handset speeds of 3.6 Mbps is the first.

Web browsing, as well as streaming and downloading of contents, will be demonstrated compared by 1.8 Mbps and 384Kbps. 3.6 Mbps HSDPA handset allows users to download contents much faster than WCDMA or GSM/GPRS network. For example, downloading a 4MB mp3 file takes less than 10 seconds at 3.6Mbps HSDPA.

The accomplishment resulted from a collaboration between Samsung's HSDPA handset and Qualcomm's Mobile Station Modem solution.

HSDPA mobile broadband is capable of transmitting data at speeds up to seven times faster than that of WCDMA. Users can enjoy multimedia downloads such as DVD-quality movies and interactive games with high-speed wireless Internet access comparable to speeds of fixed-line ADSL services.
